Therefore, the primary goal of this report is to compile information concerning local and regional geo. The USGS Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center has maintained a hydrologic monitoring network within Gary and the surrounding Lake County area for about 30 years. The network includes discrete site measurements of both surface- and groundwater levels in the Grand Calumet River and Calumet aquifer respectively.
Near-surface soils, boreholes, and sediments near the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) were sampled in as were monitoring wells, TVA wells, and privately-owned wells.
Most wells were sampled two or three times. The resulting chemical analyses have been published in previous reports and have been previously described (CH2M HILL; Clausen et al.
